The shaping of the physical environment has remained a fundamental need throughout human history and continues to be important today. Despite advancing technology and increasing opportunities, the negative impacts of urbanization and natural disasters bring forth various issues in response to different aspects of this need in existing infrastructure and the built environment. Particularly, the effects of global warming and climate change make it mandatory to reassess the design, infrastructure, and construction of cities, buildings, and spaces with the goal of creating sustainable lifestyles.

In this context, the Department of Architecture at Hacettepe University’s Faculty of Architecture aims to train professionals who are capable of contemporary design, urban, and spatial understanding, considering natural, environmental, social, economic, and cultural factors. These professionals will possess critical and creative thinking, research, questioning, and problem-solving skills, as well as high social awareness and sustainability consciousness. They will embrace responsible production-consumption and inclusive design principles.
